Native Student Activity

Sault College continues to enrol, educate and graduate native students from programs across the College.  Our native student population has grown rapidly over the past few years.  This is, in part, because the College recognizes and attempts to meet native students' needs in a variety of ways.

The uniquely designed Native Student Centre - Enji Maawnjiding - provides a "home-base" for native students from all College programs.  The Director of Native Education and Training, the Native Student Counsellor, faculty, and support staff have offices close to the Native Student Centre.  All staff take an active interest in student success and are readily available when students need them.

The Native Student Counsellor assists in liaison with First Nations for status students and with various other organizations for non-status native students.   The counselling unit provides suggestions for academic assistance and helps students in their adjustment to college life.

The Native Student Council (NSC)
The Council has the following three objectives:
1.  To unite Sault College students, especially those of native descent, through social, cultural and sports events.
2.  To provide a linkage for College students with the larger native and non-native community.
3.  To assist students in furthering their education.
Each academic year, students are nominated and run for offices on the NSC.  Current positions are:  president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
