1. How do I register with Workopolis.com?

3. What services does Student Employment Services offer:

Answer:

The Student Employment Services office offers the following services to students, graduates and alumni:

  • Private student office for interviewing
  • Printer, fax, phone and photocopier services for job search activities

  • Resume and cover letter reviews
  • Extensive on-line internet resources
  • Applications forms provided by employers
  • GoJobs, Canada Employment Weekly and WorkopolisCampus bindered job listings
  • Assistance with WorkopolisCampus.com registration
  • On-campus employment opportunities
  • Summer job and local part time employment opportunities
  • Virtual career fair
  • Program specific job fairs, information sessions and networking events

4. How do I get help with a resume and cover letter?

Answer:

You can either drop off your resume and cover letter in Student Employment Services or email your resume to lynda.bowyer@saultcollege.ca to have it reviewed by email. When you pick up your resume, we can discuss the improvements. Resumes are reviewed for format, grammar, and spelling. Content is the responsibility of the student, however, examples of resumes and resource material will be supplied as part of the review.

5. How do I apply for on-campus positions?

Answer:

On-campus positions are available throughout the academic year. Early in September, you may pick up an application package in the Student Services area. There are eligibility requirements depending upon the position applied for. Jobs are available in Athletics, the Student Life Centre, the Library, and a variety of other departments. 6. What is an employment Consultation session? How do I schedule one?

Answer:

In an employment consultation session, you will sit down with an employment specialist and discuss some or all of the following:

  • Specific career and labour market information for their program area
  • Reviewing/upgrading student job search correspondence in accordance with current standards in their particular labour market
  • Inventory of student skills, knowledge and experience, employment needs, financial needs, job search support
  • Determine job search strategies based on particular program area and individual student needs
  • Determine action plan for employment related success
  • Determine program specific internet based job search strategies and relay labour market information to develop employment options
  • Career and employer information, including current labour legislation
  • Referral to appropriate agencies/college departments for special assistance (learning disabilities, special needs, self employment training)
  • Consultations may alternatively be completed by email or telephone

All information discussed or developed in an employment consultation is strictly confidential.

To book an Employment Consultation Session, please email lynda.bowyer@saultcollege.ca, with two or three convenient times and your academic year and program of study. This information will give the employment specialist a chance to prepare for your session.

7. I will be graduating in the spring. What services do you provide after graduation?

Answer:

All graduates and alumni are eligible for services from Sault College.

Students can also access an email distribution list, from which they will receive weekly updates on graduate positions. To join this list, email lynda.bowyer@saultcollege.ca and enter SUBSCRIBE GRAD JOB LIST in the subject heading. We will email you back to confirm your registration and your program of study.

8. Where do I get information regarding co-operative education employment opportunities?

Student Employment Services does not handle co-op placements. For information regarding co-op employment opportunities, contact:
