How much is tuition?

Tuition varies depending on what program you’re interested in. In May of each year, tuition rates are determined provincially by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, after which time we can pass the most current information along to you in your confirmation package. Typically tuition fees are due by the last week of June to prepare for your program’s staffing and course requirements.

For tuition, ancillary fee and book supply information for your specific program, please visit your program of interest and under “program overview” click on “Program Fact Sheet”.

If you are already a student at Sault College, simply visit your portal and click on fees owing.

When is the deadline to pay tuition?

If you are starting to study in the fall (September), you’ll need to pay or defer your fees by June 30, 2011 to save your seat and avoid a late fee.

If you are starting a program in the winter semester (January), you’ll need to pay or defer your fees by December 2, 2011 to save your seat and avoid a late fee.

Even though you haven’t started studying yet, fees need to be paid so that we can prepare for you and your program.

How to Apply to College

  1. Apply to College.
    • Go online to www.ontariocolleges.ca by February 1st for equal consideration. Follow the prompts to complete the four step process. There is a non-refundable $95 fee to apply.
    • Watch for communication from Sault College. If you are accepted, we will mail you an offer of admission to let you know.
    • We will need a copy of your transcript to see that you have met the admission requirements prior to offering you admission.
    • Offers of admission are sent out after February 1st. You’ll want to confirm before May 1st or your seat may be offered to the next person wanting to study here.
    • *The only way to apply for full time programs at Sault College is by applying at www.ontariocolleges.ca.

  2. Confirm your offer of admission
    • To confirm your offer of admission, you'll need to go back online to confirm at www.ontariocolleges.ca.
    • Once you have confirmed your offer, we will send you your confirmation package in the mail which will include information on your fee payment deadlines, other important dates and portal instructions.
    • Log on to www.ontariocolleges.ca
    • Confirm your acceptance to a Sault College Program to save your spot in the program.
  3. Apply for financial assistance.
    • OSAP is the short-form for the Ontario Student Assistance Program, which is a popular financial program set up by the provincial and federal government that helps students living in Ontario get money to go to college and/or university full-time. You can either receive grants that don’t have to be paid back or loans that do.
    • You’ll need a bank account to receive OSAP, so be sure to open one if you don’t already have one.
    • You’ll also need your Sault College student card, and two other forms of ID – one that has your social insurance number on it – to pick up your loan or grant from the Student Financial Assistance office in person on main campus. The other piece of ID has to be current and needs to have your picture on it.
    • OSAP is an excellent program that helps a lot of students go to school, but be sure to pay back the money you owe or defer payments with your bank or it can really hurt your credit in the future.
    • You can apply to many other fantastic Sault College scholarships, bursaries, and awards, as well – we give away a lot of money each year, and many times, all you need to do is apply for it.
    • Visit the Student Financial Assistance Office on main campus by Tim Horton’s or call 705.759.2554, ext. 2704 to learn more and get a complete list of everything you can apply for.

  4. Send in your Final Transcript.
    • During the school year, call your high school after you apply to College and ask them to send your high school transcript to the Registrar’s Office.
    • During the summer, high schools close, so you still can apply to college but you’ll have to wait until mid to end-of-August until your school re-opens to have your transcript sent.
    • If you are fortunate enough to have your high school on-line, you can request a transcript electronically through www.ontariocolleges.ca and it can be sent to us that way.
  5. Pay or defer your tuition fees.
    • Come by or call the Sault College Accounting Office by June 30th, 2011 to pay or defer your College fees.
    • Even though you haven’t started school with us yet, you’ll need to pay fees in the summer to save your spot in your program for the fall. Profs and facilities need to be paid for before you get here to start your studies, so fees are paid upfront to help make this happen.
  6. Bring in the information needed for your program.
    • If you applied for Health or Community Service programs, bring or send in the following requirements to the College:
      1. Supplementary Student Information Form,
      2. First Aid/CPR,
      3. Police Records Search,
      4. Immunization, and
      5. Health Records.
      6. Gina Guidocci receives the first three requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Practical Nursing programs.

Katherine Johnson receives them for Personal Support Worker, Fitness and Health Promotion, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physiotherapy Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigation, Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker, and Social Service Worker – Native Specialization.

    • The Health Centre in the College (down the stairs from the A-wing lobby) is the place to bring your Immunization and Health Records.
  7. Print Booklists and Your Timetable.
    • Visit the electronic student portal at www.mysaultcollege.ca, after the first week in August, to access your student information including your:
      • Booklists
      • Timetables
      • Fees
      • Academic Records

How do I apply as a Mature Student?

At Sault College, we respect those who have the courage to change their lives for the better. We value the life experience you bring into an institution of learning after being out there in the world. Here, you’ll be welcomed and respected as well as made to feel comfortable in our educational setting no matter your age. From on-site child care for those students with families to understanding profs who will do what they can to work around your life schedule, Sault College goes above and beyond to make sure your return to school goes as smoothly and successfully as possible. We know you can do it. Just give us a try.

A mature student is someone who is 19 years of age or older by the first day of College and has not graduated from high school. If you have graduated from high school but haven’t been to school in a while, you’re an adult learner.

If you’re a mature student, you can still apply to College, and have two options:

  • You can pay $25 to write the Canadian Academic Achievement Test (CAAT) for Math and/or English requirements only or you can take Academic Upgrading for free to get your high school equivalency for any of our college programs.

If you’re an adult learner – that, is, have graduated from high school and have been out of school for a while, you still may want to consider free Academic Upgrading to re-fresh your skills before the start of your program. Call Rike Landry at 705-759-2554 ext., 2733.

If you think you have the requirements for the College program you’re interested in, you’ll want to do the following:

  1. Go online to www.ontariocolleges.ca by February 1st for equal consideration. Follow the prompts to complete the four step process. There is a non-refundable $95 fee to apply.
  2. Watch for communication from Sault College. If you are accepted, we will mail you an offer of admission to let you know.
  3. Offers of admission are sent out after February 1st. You’ll want to confirm before May 1st or your seat may be offered to the next person wanting to study here.
  4. To confirm your offer of admission, you'll need to go back online to confirm at www.ontariocolleges.ca.
  5. Once you have confirmed your offer, we will send you your confirmation package in the mail which will include information on your fee payment deadlines, other important dates and portal instructions.
  6. Pay your fees to save your spot. We will let you know what else you will need along the way.

How do you apply for Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries?

If you study full-time, you can apply for many different scholarships, awards, and bursaries. Here’s the difference between the three types:

Scholarships are normally awarded on the basis of academic achievement. If you apply scholarships, you’ll need to maintain a minimum 3.0 accumulated GPA.

Bursaries are usually awarded on the basis of financial need.

Awards are usually awarded on the basis of both financial need and academic performance. All scholarships and awards are intended to encourage a high standard of academic achievement.

The Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards application is on the Student Portal under "My Records" in October of each year. You’ll need to fill out and bring it in no later than the deadline that’s listed. Please note that just because you applied that you’re receive something, however, as this is not guaranteed.

Applying on-line application for College scholarships, bursaries and awards is usually all that is needed for any available award.

If you would like to learn more, visit the Student Financial Assistance Office staff in room E1301 on main campus, by emailing fin.aid@saultcollege.ca or call us at 705.759.2554 ext. 2704.

Awards are usually given out in the winter semester, usually March. Hope you apply!
