Forwarding LMS mail to your Sault College email account

1. Log into LMS
2. Click My Settings in the Top Right corner
3. Select Edit Profile
4. Enter your Sault College email address in the E-mail box
5. Select Save
6. Select the My Tools Options tab
7. Search for the Mail settings
8. Check the box below Mail forwarding
Note: You must use LMS mail if you wish to respond to the mail message.

Enrolling CICE and notetaker staff members

CICE staff are enrolled by faculty using the following steps:

  1. Faculty access the Grade Book for their LMS course site
  2. Faculty click on the Enroll Members button - located just above the Grade Book columns
  3. Faculty type in the username of the CICE or notetaker staff member, ie., smaceachern
  4. Faculty click on the box next to Auditor to assign a role
  5. Faculty click on the Enroll button
  6. Faculty click Save when they are done enrolling CICE staff
  7. Faculty click on OK to confirm enrolment

Word Documents

Word documents should be saved as PDF files and uploaded into a Learning Module.
Students may experience problems if you upload your content as doc/docx (Word) files.  You can easily save them in the proper format using Microsoft Office 2010.

GradeBook rows not lining up properly

1. Click on the windows XP start button
2. Control Panel
3. Select Display from the items in the list
4. Settings tab
5. Advanced button
6. Change the DPI setting to Normal size
7. Click on OK
8. Close your programs and re-boot your computer for the changes to take effect.
Note: The larger font size causes the gradebook display problem.

Application's Digital Signature

When you log into LMS, you may recieve a pop-up message, The application's digital signature has been verified.  Do you want to run the application?  Please click Run or you will not be able to upload files to LMS from your computer.

(Exporting Grades, Importing Grades to Excel and Save your speadsheet as an Excel workbook)

Exporting Grades
select the Teach Tab
go into the GradeBook

choose the View All tab
Reorder Columns tab
ensure the columns that you want to Export are all visible
Save to save your changes

Note: saving your file as Unicode (UCS-2) allows you to maintain the student number leading zeros. Saving your file as Unicode (UTF-8) allows you to import the file into Excel without any additional steps, but you lose the student number leading zeros.

choose Export to Spreadsheet
for the Character Set, choose Unicode(UCS-2)
select Export
Save to save the file
modify the name to reflect the course, ie., NRT156WinterGrades2009.csv

Importing Grades to Excel
Open Excel
retrieve the exported file,
File Open
change the File Type to All Files(*.*)
locate the saved file, ie., NRT156WinterGrades2009.csv
The file is comma delimited, so choose delimited
Next
choose Comma deselect Tab
Next
click on the UserID column
change the Column data format to Text
Finish

Save your spreadsheet as an Excel workbook
within Excel, Save As from the menu
choose Excel Workbook
name the file to suit your needs
Save
