This course provides an understanding to the student of the continuum of substance use, abuse and the impact of substance dependence on individuals and as a social issue. Students will also gain an understanding of process addictions. The role of the Child and Youth Care Practitioner in supporting children, youth and families impacted by addictions will be examined. There is an emphasis on intervention strategies in the areas of therapeutic programming, individual counseling and group work relevant to treatment goals for the client.
