Forest Soils

An introductory forest soils course that covers landform origin, description and identification, soil profile development and profile classification, site description and site classification. Students collect samples and then analyze soil samples in both a field and laboratory setting to determine the physical, chemical and biological soil properties. Through field trips and class room exercises, students complete some aspects of forest ecosystem classification.
