Withdrawing

You made a great choice to study at Sault College, but sometimes plans and interests change. We understand this and give you a full ten (10) days at the beginning of your semester with us to decide whether or not to stay in your program. If you change your mind during that time, you can try something else (switch programs) or stop studying altogether (known as ‘withdrawing’, and get a full refund for what you have paid).

If you choose to stop studying (to withdraw) from Sault College, here’s what you’ll need to know:

  • Check   Important Dates      for the final date to withdraw from a course or program and be eligible for a refund less the $100 administration fee*.  This usually happens on Day 10 of each semester.  Important Dates (Academic Calendar of Events) are available on your portal at   my.saultcollege.ca.
  • Then, be sure to officially withdraw from your program in time by visiting your Academic Chair’s office to complete a   Withdrawal Form. If you don’t know where your Academic Chair’s office is, drop by the Registrar’s Office in Essar Hall to find out.
  • To make sure you are making the right decision, we recommend that you visit the College’s counsellors in Student Services or your Program Coordinator before withdrawing. They can give you the academic advising you need to find the best solution for your future.
  • If you officially withdraw from the College before the Day 10, no grades will appear on your transcript.
  • If you officially withdraw from the College after Day 10 but   before   the “last day to withdraw without academic penalty” as listed in  Important Dates   (week 10 of each semester), a “W” grade will recorded on your transcript for all courses in that term and you will not be eligible for a tuition refund.
  • If you officially withdraw from the College after the “last day to withdraw without academic penalty” as listed in    Important Dates  , an “F” grade will be recorded on your transcript.
  • If you leave the College without officially withdrawing from your program, you will receive an “F” grade on your transcript for all courses in that term. Please note that refunds are provided to students who officially withdraw within the first 10 days of the semester.

How to withdraw from a specific course:

  • You will need to meet with the Professor of the course or a counsellor in Student Services if you are thinking about withdrawing from a specific course to make sure that you have the appropriate course load to achieve your academic goals. After that first meeting you will need to visit your Academic Chair’s Office to complete the course withdrawal process.
  • Students may withdraw from any course and be eligible for a refund less the $100 administration fee*, if the withdrawal is completed before Day 10 of the start of classes.
  • Students can withdraw from any course without academic penalty if the withdrawal takes place by the “last day to drop courses without academic penalty” as specified in   Important Dates   (Week 10 of the semester).
  • If you choose to withdraw from a course after Day 10 (“Last day to withdraw from a course or program and be eligible for a refund less the administration fee”) and before the “Last day to drop courses” (Week 10), a “W” grade will be recorded on your transcript. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for a tuition refund if you withdraw after Day 10.

*Please note that international and Continuing Education students have a different   refund policy.
