Five Local Students Recipients Of Specialist High Skills Major Award

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON August 04, 2020)

Five local high school students – Chanel Dubreuil, Abbey Engel, Christina Kalomiris, Mateo Perri, and Trystin Roussain – are Sault College’s most recent recipients of the Specialist High Skills Major Award. Through this scholarship, now in its second year, these students were awarded $1,000 towards their tuition for the upcoming academic year!

To be eligible for the award, students must have been graduating from high school in June 2020, have applied and been accepted to Sault College, have completed the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and continuing that path into a Sault College program, include a letter of recommendation, and submit a one-page essay outlining their high school experience, why SHSM was chosen and how that has prepared them for College.

The SHSM lets students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). “Through this Specialist High Skills Major Award, Sault College wanted to reinforce the benefits and strengths of the SHSM and provide additional incentive to those students transitioning from SHSM to a related area of study at the College,” said Tanya Running, Manager Strategic Enrolment, Sault College. “These students have found their passions through SHSM and we are honoured to be able to support them and celebrate their hard work and perseverance. We are tremendously excited for these students to continue their studies in the fall and we look forward to continuing to offer this award into the future,” she added.
