Sault College and Sault College Students’ Union Celebrate Diversity with Progress Flag Raising Ceremony

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON July 19, 2021) – Today, in keeping with COVID-19 restrictions, a small group gathered at Sault College for a flag raising ceremony in celebration of Diversity and Inclusion at Sault College. The event, which featured various speakers in addition to the flag-raising, is one of the ways Sault College and the Sault College Students’ Union (SCSU) could honour and show its tremendous support for the diverse community on campus and in Sault Ste. Marie.

Sault College and SCSU remain fiercely committed to fostering a campus that celebrates diversity and individuality and promotes equity, inclusion and respect for all. "Sault College is committed to equity and inclusion. We are dedicated to creating an invitational education experience where everyone can feel safe and welcomed.

"We celebrate the rich diversity of the college and the community as a whole today and we hope everyone makes an individual commitment to be kind and welcoming to others every day of the year," says Dr.   Ron    Common.

“We believe that diversity is one of the main strengths of Sault College and we want all to be comfortable, feel supported and know that there are resources available. Through this ceremony we want to spread the word that everyone is unique, and everyone’s voice counts and we are honoured to raise the Progress flag today in the spirit of solidarity, respect, and love,” said Ahmad Alkosani, President, Sault College Students’ Union.

We would like to thank community member and business owner Gaelyn Coleman for donating our new Progress Flag.
