Sault College Employee Marilyn King Recipient of ATHENA Leadership Award

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON March 9, 2022) – Today, the Sault College community is celebrating a dedicated and inspirational employee, Marilyn King, on being the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce ATHENA Leadership Award for 2022. Marilyn joins an impressive list of women who have made a tremendous impact on the lives of others and within our community and beyond.

A Registered Nurse her entire career, which has spanned nearly five decades, Marilyn was honoured with this prestigious award because of her professionalism, her commitment to her profession and in-depth understanding of her field, her compassion, and her ability to inspire those she has taught since transitioning to work in education. Her nomination was strongly endorsed by numerous letters of support from various individuals, including both colleagues and students, whom she has mentored and inspired in countless ways.

Marilyn’s commitment and passion is evident in every aspect of her work. “I have always believed my work as a nurse would be very important if I kept my focus on making a difference in the lives of others. One real gift I have realized over almost 48 years of nursing is that the impact I have had on others – whether I have cared for them or educated or mentored them – has made a tremendous difference in my life. I am truly honoured to be recognized through the ATHENA Leadership Award and I am grateful for the ongoing support of those who surround me and have supported me throughout my career. I also send congratulations to all those nominated alongside me,” said Marilyn King.

“Marilyn King has been a valued member of the Sault College team for more than 20 years. Beginning as nursing faculty, she shared her knowledge, expertise and experiences with many students inspiring them as they pursued a career in this meaningful field. Now as an administrator, she continues to mentor faculty and staff and play an integral role in moving our College and our programming forward,” said Dr. Ron Common, President, Sault College. “Marilyn leads by example and continuously strives for excellence. On behalf of Sault College, we congratulate Marilyn on this outstanding and well-deserved accomplishment and thank the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce for recognizing leaders in our community.”

Congratulations to Marilyn and all of this year’s nominees on this amazing honour!
