Seminar I: Professional Development and the Workplace

Students explore skills of self-advocacy and self-determination, and set goals for field placement, academics, employment, and future opportunities. Through role-play, students practice professional skills, including assertive communication. Students demonstrate understanding of workplace legislation including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act. With assistance, learners create an effective resume and cover letter. Learning activities relate directly to co-requisite field placement course CIC112 Field Placement I.
