Winter 2024 Dual Credit Courses Offered via MS Teams

See below for a list of our online Dual Credit courses being offered through Microsoft Teams, including course descriptions and a list of which Sault College programs your course credit will count towards. Students must have a computer/laptop and access to internet at home to be able to participate. Only students who live outside of Sault Ste. Marie and are not able to attend Sault College campus due to travel distance are eligible for online Dual Credits.

 

Communications I

This course is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively in their programs and at the college level. Students will think critically to capture the meaning of messages and respond appropriately, produce clear and coherent paragraphs, and purposefully research and responsibly integrate credible sources into their own writing. Emphasis is placed on the writing process, from planning to revising, while providing opportunities to explore various modes of communication. This course includes two hours of in-class instruction and one hour of independent study each week.

Introduction to Psychology

A study of the science of psychology: its methods, concepts, and theories, including the topic areas of 1) brain, consciousness, sensation, and perception, 2) learning and memory, 3) intelligence, thought, and creativity, 4) motivation. Psychological concepts will be studied with a view towards how they can be applied to enhance the student`s understanding of psychological adaptation and the causes and consequences of human behaviour.

Medical Terminology

This basic course will focus on the anatomical structure and function of the human body and related terminology used to describe body parts, structure and function. Related terminology will also include general or symptomatic terms, diagnostic terms, surgical procedures and abbreviations. This course is delivered 2 hours per week with an additional 1 hour per week of independent study.

Introduction to Anishinaabemowin

This course will concentrate on common conversation sentences to use at work or in social settings. The four language skills: listening, speaking, writing, and reading will be incorporated learning basic Anishinaabemowin. There will be a variety of activities and interaction with other students. A portion of the course lessons will be the based on the Medicine Wheel and Seven Grandfather Teachings. Our goal is to regain and retain Anishinaabemowin language and culture.
